Whats the most racist movie ever?

The Birth of a Nation (1915)
or
Bamboozled (2000)

ok first off I don't mean to offend anyone and I alomst didn't post this because it may feel like a complete dismissal of all those years of pain and suffering endured by the black race through slavery and mistreatment.

FREE TIBET!

Anyway

The Birth of a Nation – Ok so I haven’t actually seen it but it appears to be white guys portraying twisted versions of black guys in order to garner sympathy and reason for the KKK, sounds pretty racist.

Bamboozled – Blackface montage Scene by Scene
1. Uncle Tom’s Cabin – Some old black dude who’s obviously living a very simple and poor life. Looks like someone who could’ve really existed in those harsh times. Why is looking at history racist?
2. Bunch of minstrels telling bad jokes, seems pretty innocent to me. I doubt if any of those performers intended to be racist. I think intent is a key word.
3. Minstrels inspecting some tribeswomen. Looks like something out of Monty Python. More Bizarre than racist.
4. Cartoon caricature of large black woman. I think this image is made to look funny and not meant to be demeaning.
5. Some black dude playing a piano. What the hell is racist about this???
6. Minstrels doing a crazy dance – so what?
7. Black caricature trying to swat a fly. Ever get a funny portrait done, they accentuate your features, big deal. How many other cartoon characters do stupid things, bunny’s, ducks etc.?

And on and on it goes.

What I find particularly offensive is that Spike lee includes images of real people just being themselves, some kid dancing, some woman smoking a pipe some old guy with missing teeth. How can people being themselves be viewed as racist unless Spike Lee’s intention is to shun his roots and say that anyone that doesn’t come up to his standard of blackness should be ridiculed? Sounds like something Hitler dreamed up with his Arian race.

Am I a racist for not getting it?

Irish endured similar mistreatment but whats the point of us throwing that stuff at English people today. What has any of that really got to do with anything anymore?

I can see the poster for Bamboozled being quite offence as it portrays a little black kid in quite a demeaning way so I’m not totally blind to it but most of that montage scene felt like Spike clutching for straws in an effort to shock.

Of course in these PC times a feckin’ laugh out of place could cause an avalanche of retribution.

i never saw birth of a nation, but bamboozled was about an ongoing preference of how blacks are portrayed in media...truth be told it wasn't racist at all. offensive yes. but to point out racial confusion and chaos.

would u rather have a novice at matters of the heart....or an expert lover?....then don't complain and appreciate this.....

I would disagree entirely. I reckon Song of the South is one of the greatest films to show how black and white can actually become the best of friends i.e. Uncle Remus and the little boy.

These are about Racism, not considered racist movies in themselves like how funny films like Norbit, Soul Man and Tropic Thunder are frowned on by some.

The history teacher I worked with last school year showed "Birth of a Nation" and had the kids write an essay pointing out the racist notions & stereotypes that were brought forth as "fact" in 1915. There is even an endorsement by President Wilson at the beginning of the film, stating how it was "informative". disbelief

Really really, over on imdb they reckon its racist cos this uncle Remus character shouldn't be so good humoured all the time because slavery had just been abolished and times were still so tough.
I say fair dues to Mr. Remus for keeping his spirits up. I'd consider him an ideal role model for humanity, charming, good natured, respectful and polite. Where's the racism in that?
It's also a wonderfully warm performance and I think its such a pity that Disney don't want this film to be seen. There's some wonderful animation and music in it too.

I don't know how anybody in their right mind would think to compare Birth of a Nation with Bamboozled. Truly ridiculous and unimformed, obviously. Damn shame.

Just because Bamboozled is labled a satire dosen't mean it can't offend. Yes Birth was deliberately made racist but I believe Spike unintentionally perhaps treats his subject with less respect than the ignorant white media of the 30's.

"Birth" wasn't deliberately made to be racist. It was considered documentary-level material at the time.

Like I said I never saw it and I only watched Bam to hear the Prince song but I didn't hear it. Was it in the end credits or something?

Cool, thanks for that. I actually watched Soul Man the other night like that. All this negative publicity against Mr. Downey Jr. got me up in arms against the PC brigade thats all.
Spike Lee did make one fine movie in Do the Right Thing. Girl 6 was worse than Graffiti Bridge.

'Undercover Brotha'? That's pretty cringe-worthy. lol

'Finding Forrester' doesn't quite sit right either. Just so heavy-handed.

Any old movies or TV series that had white women playing Asians. disbelief

'White Chicks'? Ok, I haven't seen it, but I doubt from seeing the trailers that there aren't some horribly racist stereotypes thrown around in it.

it makes me wonder about the things we accept in films and on television now, that in 30 or 50 years we'll look back on and think "oh my god, how did i ever think that was okay???" confused

Absolutely. It's already begun with Chevy Chase movies.

The smiling, happy-go-lucky, emasculated Negro who's not a threat to white folks. Yeah, that's an image I'd want my kids to see. Thanks, but no thanks.

While we're on the subject, "Gone With the Wind" is a P.O.S. too.

How about movies with friendly, non-threatening, wise, old Morgan Freeman? He's so nice and wise and cuddly. mushy
