Grafitti as art?

Visit any major city or metropolis and you'll see it.

Suburban neighborhoods are not exempt.

I love well placed, thought out graphic messages.
*personal property* has always been a no spray zone as far as i'm concerned..

Oh, and I'm not a tagger lol

But....

When you see it,what's your first reaction?

If you specialize in graffti, let us see it.

I used to dabble. lol

I like grafitti , I have nothing against it. At my local Boys & Girls Club , the youths used grafitti as a way to express themselves in a more postive light. They used to be taggers before they joined and once they realized that they can used their drawings as something meaningful , their self confidence was lifted. smile

I love it.
Standing there expressing yourself..

I think in the modern age, some of the best designs have been displayed in the graffiti world.
I'm only referring to one city.SD

Imagine hundreds of cities with thousands of spray units.
Yeah, they already exist razz
But
HomeDepot can't stop it.
So.....

I'd like to see what talents we have here cool

post your taglines/graffiti.

also ..how you feel about this public scrawl?

There must be only one tagger in my area.

He specializes in penises. There must be at least 20 giant penises on my way from home to work. They come in all colors too smile

I nominate MikeMatronik for Best Org Plumber 2008.
He finds ALL the leaks smile

I think people who dont like grafitti are just mad because they cant do it, or it started off where people plastered it on walls illegally and it gave it a bad name to begin with.

A lot of it just looks like messy scribbling and it does seem to be an eyesore. However, when it's done well, it's pretty amazing. There's a long wall in San Francisco that is reserved for graffiti. You can see it from the highway and the artwork is remarkable! Definitely makes life more interesting rather than seeing a blank wall.

Like any art form, I suppose, there's good and there's bad.

ART!!!

"People used to attack me and say it was a conflict of interest: I was the manager, I was the record company, I was the publisher, and I would say, Yes, of course, conflict of interest, but it’s in their favor, you stupid fuck." - Berry Gordy

Agreed .

If it's not done on personal property, and isn't a blatant gang or a hate message,I'm usually impressed.
Although living in a big city is easy to become jaded, the talents of some are amazing.

I think every city should have a few walls like that.

thank you.
I appreciate your comment.
It's actually glitter, and a little extreme. lol
I used several colors for effect and none worked.

you're right too much detail lost.

TOny your grafitti is hot. Although I agreed with heart, the second one didnt compliment the original at all papi. But I like the San Diego one, thats crucial.

Honestly, I haven't seen it myself...the website I copied this from didn't
give an exact location, except that it's in NE Minneapolis by some boring,
box-like building.... lol I'd like to see it myself.... cool

Very true, Graffiti is an art, a form of expression and I've seen so many that have deep messages. Many people don't appreciate it as art. I remember when many of NYC trains were spray painted with graffiti all over them, but now you see very few, depending on what trains you take. I'm in NYC so you see it all the time. I agree about the well placed, thought out graphics though.

syble

Grafitti is art, my brother did graffiti when he was younger, its shame about tagging though cos it has masked the art of grafitti and often they tag over the art which is a crime iMO.

Theres been some grafitti artists commissioned in london this year, i think its in the tunnel near paddington station or somewhere, theyve been given the whole tunnel with some famous poeple making art in there.

I love seeing trains with graffiti and i hate seeing whitewashed art, it seems sad to see a creation obliterated like that, i always wonder what was under it.
