I can't hear it from work.

Is this like the old 'Metal' Metallica, or is it the post-Grunge error, biker rock Metallica?

I think it's poor, but I wasn't expecting anything better. Metallica have now gone completely into that Rolling Stones pattern of releasing any old crap as an excuse for a megabucks world tour.

And the production is terrible - really disappointing from Rick Rubin. Steve Albini woulda been a better choice IMO.

It's a funny thing, but Metallica's music has often sufferred from lousy production and post-production.their eighties albums, fine as they are, would have been better if the guitars sounded a bit fuller. And I've always been disappointed that Cliff burton's basslines were not more audible. Their nineties albums actually have terriffic sonics overall.

But As for St. Anger, I sincerely hope that the guy who mixed and mastered that didn't get paid for his work.

apparently, someone in Metallica's organisation accidentally sent out dud copies of 'The day that never comes'. I think that it's a decent song, but nothing that Metallica haven't done a thousand times before.

gosh. I'm a little disappointed. While it's a cool song starting with Kirk's solo on, it reminds me too much of Fade To Black, and it's formulaic,

The bass in a lot of Metallica's work has been drowned out by everything else...hell if I were them I would have just stopped getting bass player after bass player after Jason left. I mean they hardly even need a bass player anymore...and being the money hungry people they are it would be better for them.

As for the new song, its ok not the best. But I wasn't expecting much from them. I would like to hear a good quality version of it tho
